What's New at Unified Theater
Unified Theater is gearing up for our Third Annual Greater Hartford Spring Tour on Thursday, April 2nd!
30 rockstar students of all abilities will be touring around Greater Hartford with a performance highlighting how to be an "Inclusion Rockstar" - complete with original scenes, songs and some awesome dance moves!
As part of #LOVEinclusion month, we'll be highlighting the work and advocacy of some of our favorite inclusion rockstars! This blog post is the first of our Career Spotlights where we talk to Kids Included Together CEO (and Unified Theater Board Member) Torrie Dunlap about her job and her passion for inclusion. Torrie is not only an inclusion expert but has also done theater and dance her entire life so she fits right in at Unified Theater. Head over to the Unified Theater Blog to hear more from Torrie and a link to her recent TEDx talk all about inclusion.
We want to see (and share!) your creative take on what it means to #LOVEinclusion. Join the video challenge -- have your voice heard and win Discovery Dollars and other great prizes!
We are very excited to welcome our new staff member, Rachel Griffin! Rachel joins our fabulous UT team as the Development & Communications Manager which means she'll be rocking fundraising and special events. Get to know Rachel a little bit over on our blog where she answered some fun questions, including what her theme song would be! Click here to read more!
Head on over to the UTBlog for the new blog post from YLC member Maggie! Maggie found a great story about engineering students at Rice University and their awesome creativity in creating a wheelchair for Pedro, a student with disabilities. Here at Unified, we talk about creativity a LOT and we love that you can use creativity in all aspects of life, not just theater! We especially love to see creativity used to create a more inclusive world and Maggie shares a great example of that. Click here to read her blog post!
Have you ever been hesitant to try something new because you thought you weren't the right type or fit? YLC rockstar Taylor shares an inspiring story about pushing through even when you face resistance and encourages all of us not to limit ourselves or others. Check out our latest Youth Leader Council guest blog post here!
Our wonderful Youth Leader Council members are hard at work on their blog posts, which we'll share throughout the year. Check out our first YLC post by UT Alum Michael Duff! Mike graduated from Simsbury High School this year and is in his first year at Farmington Valley Transitional Academy at the University of Hartford where he's working hard to start a university branch of Unified Theater. We love this post about the value of trying something new - something we should all be reminded of on a regular basis!
This past weekend, the Unified Theater Staff was lucky enough to spend the whole weekend with our brand, shiny new Youth Leader Council for their Orientation! UTYLC is a group of 10 inclusion rockstars from all over the country who know and love Unified Theater and who will work with us all year on improving UT in various ways, big and small.
